A fair amount of you are math-hating types. I'm sure there's more than a few of my readers that either hated math in highschool, or are currently still in the process of hating their highschool maths... For you I have spent countless hours (The exact amount of hours can be derived by dividing my lack of a girlfriend by the amount of hours in a day and adding that to the sum total of the internet over the period of sleep I'm losing by allowing myself to post on this blog... somehow the answer is always Pi...) Long story short this video makes at least some math fun... and I liked it (which is a great bonus to editing your own blog... if you don't enjoy this, you're reading the wrong blog!)
Cheers to ViHart for putting this vid and many others together for our enjoyment, and cheers to make the mundane slightly more enjoyable through art and awesome,

The snow was beginning to pile up outside as I sat down to update the blog and jump into a few international chatrooms to see what the buzz on the net was about. As usual their were plenty of interesting topics on sites all other the place...but their was one that struck a cord with me more than any other.

We were discussing tattoos and art and I was asked by someone to explain my ink. I'm not one to brag about my tattoos and I'm not one to get them on a whim either. I always give the artwork months of thought and contemplation before settling on a design and location, as one should with something so permanent. It was in this conversation that someone asked me about the maple leaf I have on my chest. I told them it was the easiest decision I'd ever made and that it's a piece of art I will never regret.

"How could you be so sure," they asked, "that you won't someday regret it... it's not like you can say that you're never ashamed to be Canadian!" This statement got to me a little. I couldn't help but think of the events I've lived through that genuinely made me feel like Canada, as a nation, had let the world down. Certain people, in this country of ours, have soiled its image with ignorance and greed... but then I got to thinking about our national identity; I thought about the sort of things that make us Canadians.

Luckily, in my search, I came across more than just old videos of Bob and Doug McKenzie. The videos weren't just old skits with Colin Mockery and Rick Mercer... though I loved all of those clips all-the-same. I came across one video that really made me proud, made feel genuinely patriotic (which for a Canadian to do is a biological anomaly!) The video came to us during the Vancouver winter Olympics and wasn't even aired in Canada. So I thought it was worth sharing it with you guys today. Here is that video:

Cheers to patriotism every day of the year, because one day in the summer just doesn't cut it for a nation this Awesome!

A short while back one of my favorite companies put together an initiative to help the world suck a little less. This company has always been a leader in innovation both in their product, and in society. The idea of the initiative was that we might be able to make people do better things, if we made those things more fun to do. Simple, I know.

The company, Volkswagen; The initiative, The Fun Theory.

Here's a taste:

Todays little bit of awesome comes from YouTuber Sp0ntanius. This rendition of Majora's Mark played on wine glasses shows us that there really isn't anything that wine doesn't make better! (Except for driving...don't drink and drive) But watch this video!:
Cheers to making no small effort in the fight against a boring existence. Tha

Cats, they fascinate us, entertain us, keep us company... they are one of the worlds most popular pets, and probably the oldest domesticated animal. So have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a cat? The folks at Purina (Friskies) did, and that's why they fitted a little feline friend with a special camera and sent him on his merry way.

The clips aren't the steadiest, but they are from a really interesting perspective. From play-time to nap-time, cat-fights and even a scene eating a spider! These clips are worth watchin'

For being the first movie ever filmed by a cat, this is pretty interesting stuff. I'm still waiting for them to fit cats like "lasers" but until then this will have to do:

Cheers to wishing you were a cat... all that napping...

It's been four long years, but we finally have an answer. For so long we've pondered the mysterious and illusive ways that cats drink. The conclusions we've found along the way are just simple astonishing!
1. Cats don't use straws... no matter how hard you try!
2. Cats don't like fizzy drinks... gives them gas...
3. Cats have very expensive taste in wine... must be the refined sense of smell
4. There is no #4.
5. I'm just making this rubbish up, let's get back to the real science.

So this is an actual thing, researchers have actually been studying the way cats drink for four years and have released their findings in science journals. It turns out cats all drink the same way. Whether it be a tiny house-cat or a lion, they all employ the same tricks to lap up liquids. The method, sticking a barbed tongue into the liquid and quickly removing it to form a column of liquid that they clamp their mouth shut on before swallowing the fluid. Some cats have even developed the ability to curl their tongues into a ladle like shape to scoop the water into their mouths. Sound a bit weird? Well watch it in slow-mo for yourself:

2010. What can we say about 2010. For one thing, it marks the end of one helluva crap decade! Flood where there was no water before; Droughts where there was plenty. Running out of oil for our cars; Too much oil on our beaches. War between nations with weapons; Peace between countries unarmed and incapable of fighting. Death to the celebrities we loved; Mel Gibson is still alive...    (Wooo! Too far!)

So all in all this year wasn't that great. Most of the big things we wanted to get done failed (we broke the Large Hadron Collider), and many of the projects we didn't want to see completed were over in record time (Your welcome national banks! How about some of that trickle down economics you greedy old bastards...) We kinda bullocked up the whole year...
On the bright side though, it makes for a great clipshow over at Google HQ, so let's all tune in and watch the future rulers of the world amuse us :

All hail the almighty Google!
I mean cheers, to saying goodbye to 2010, and not a moment too soon!

You may not have heard it, but long-time friend of the blog (and inhabitant of the LoLvo) Dead Fred has recently done some cameo work for a fantastic YouTube video! It's always been Dead Fred's dream of being cast in a YouTube vid, ever since he was Little Deady Freddy; It wasn't a terribly large part in the movie...more of a flash cameo.

Try to see if you can spot him!

And when you're done, check out Josh's channel on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/joshsaltzman

Cheers to small media making us laugh; YouTubers are made of awesome!
