The idea of a "classic car" is one that intrigues me. The simple concept of the term "classic" is often mistaken and misunderstood. Speaking in a litigious and practical sense the term designates a car over 25 years old, but that hardly sums up "classic cars."
We've all seen cars, physically assembled two and a half decades ago, that have no rights to the term "classic". So what is a "classic car" then?

It's arguably much more important than the simple age of a vehicle, but it's also more than the condition of the car too. As time progresses and the historical first cars of the 1900's slip further into the annals of history, so too should our notion of a classic car.

Is it simply the time and effort put into the car? Because we've all seen Honda Civics with ages of effort put into them, but no one would call them "classic."

Are there instant classics then? Can a car simply roll out of the factory and instantly be crowned a classic?

Perhaps then it's rarity that gives a vehicles it's essence...

There really is no one definition to what a "classic car" is, nor do I expect to find one any time soon; I would like to, however, correct some unenlightened friends about their reference to a 2011 Ford Mustang as a "classic". I may not know exactly what a classic is, but I know what it's not... not that!
