Out of my element... and in another!

Picture
This mini photoshoot cost me a camera, but it did result in some interesting shots.
There's no real story here. I had a leaky underwater camera that was on it's way out. Luckily before it died completely I managed to snap these shots. Eventually the camera leaked so bad it just died completely.

Cheers to never buying another Olympus camera so long as I live :P

Recipes for success...

So I realized a few times now that I have a strange diet. My friends and I have a habit of making meals entirely out of awesome... here are a few of my favourites (or at least the ones I took pics of...)

The "OMG it's a Party in my Mouth" burger!

Picture
This is easily the best burger I've ever eaten...and I'm a fat kid trapped in a skinny kid's body. There's really no "recipe" here, it more just an ingredients list for an exquisite flavour rush.

A long long way from candles...

The other night I was staring off into the distance, which I sometimes do. During this particular zoning-out, I couldn't help but think just how amazing what we've accomplished in the last 200 years. It was only in the 1880s that Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison fought on these lands about the future of electricity.
AC vs DC; the war of currents; The two fought fervently about how to power the future. Today we take for granted the treasures of these great minds.

If you're a resident of Niagara and you're unaware that power and lights and modern electricity as we know it is a Niagara invention... then please Wiki it. It all started here.

Cheers to our moth-like distraction by anything bright and pretty,

The Comedy Club days

So we don't hit the comedy club as often as we'd like too anymore, but here's a fond memory of one of our last trips.

(For the record, this is the House of Comedy in Niagara Falls. Video is of our friend Ryan Kapke.)

Cheers to good time and good friends,

    TAG!                    You're it!

So this is long over-due, but I figured I'd post it anyways. Like most of what I've put up recently, this happened quite some time ago. I mean, not that long ago, but in my life 2 months is forever!

The Digital Photography class at my school got the chance to showcase their art at the Tormasi Art Gallery of St.Catharines.

We were all impressed at the great pieces which filled the upstairs galleries. Clearly Niagara is a place with artistic and talented students and graduates who'll someday be taking on the world one snap at a time.

Cheers to:

The TAG

The faculty of Niagara College

The talented student photographers

All those who attended the show and supported the arts.

So we've made a not-so-official decision...

Niagara needs a ning!

We can't seem to find any Nerdfighters in the region and we think it's pretty imperative that this happen ASAP. For those who aren't familiar with any of the concepts, here's a brief rundown.

Nerdfighters:  A nerdfighter is a person who is proud to be nerdy and intelligent, and who fights to decrease WorldSuck. Nerdfighters are not composed of cells and tissue, but instead made entirely of awesome. Nerdfighters are known to perform their Happy dances when they are joyful, and each Happy dance is unique to its respective Nerdfighter. Nerdfighters are diverse in their hobbies. Nerdfighters have also been described as someone who is "Outgoing, intelligent and awesome enough to accept nerd as a compliment".

So with all that being said, a "ning" is simply a group of Nerdfighters in a geographic region. We will definitely post as things develop, but I wanted to make it clear that we intend there to be a ning in Niagara.

Anyone who would like to help out, in any way, should contact me. Let's make this happen!

Cheers,

Strange places... I feel @home there.

I've been to some interesting and some really off places in my time. I get invited to attend weird things quite often and I enjoy learning strange facts and wandering behind the scenes. This particular trip was no different.

I'm not entirely an advocate for research animals, but I can assure you that these guys are treated very well.

Thanks to Amanda for the tour,

Think outside of the box... it might surprise you.

The Drive-Inn theater is a staple in North America. Since the birth of car-culture, there have been people who chose to give up the couch for a parking lot.

It makes no logical sense, really. You voluntarily pay extra to take a drive out into a muddy field. Once parked in the field, which has temporarily become a parking lot of other people who've clearly been fooled into the same con as you have, you set up camp. Now you wouldn't be so lucky as to be driving a convertible, so you pitch some chairs and blankets and sit uncomfortably... you stare off into the distance at what appears to be the corrugated roof from an old barn.
The smell of popcorn is overpowered by the aroma of deet-infused bug repellents and you start to think to yourself, "What the hell are we doing here?"

...then it hits you...

...those people on their couches, locked inside on this beautiful night, are missing out.

A Walk to Remember...

Too often I hear people bath-mouthing their home towns. Again and again they go on about how bored they are and how there's never anything to do. Now this might be true if you live on the prairies, but for anyone who lives in a city as beautiful as mine... it's just not the case.

Open your eyes and see the beauty of the world...

If you never stop to take a walk and look around, the world's going to pass you by.
Life's meant for living, sometimes to keep yourself on the right path, you need to take a hike.

Cheers,

Illuminaqua calls... and he will answer.

The Barenaked Ladies might have kicked him out, but Welland accepted the former frontman with arms wide open.
Singing a few classics and plenty of new stuff was Steven Page who kicked off the year for Illuminaqua in Merrit Park
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then I've said more than enough here.
More recap of the last two months coming!

Cheers,
