Some of you got this one a lot quicker than I thought you would. The photo is indeed of a human eye up close (up very close!)

This picture is one of many amazing ones taken by Suren Manvelyan with a regular, macro-lens-sporting digital SLR camera. These amazing pictures aren't of distorted, weird, damaged or even diseased eyes. They a simply regular human eyes.

Check out the collection of amazing photography by clicking here and see just how amazing the world around us really is when we stop to take a closer look.

Cheers to all who made a guess. Some of you were spot-on, other's left answers that worried me... but all of the guesses were fun to read :) so thanks for them.

It's amazing what sorts of things we can perceive in this world if we just open our eyes. Recently a friend of mine has told me that she might be changing her career goals to a different field of study. I took to Google the next day looking up interesting facts about the field and I came across a photographer who worked along-side those who studied this.

Now many of you know that I have a lot of friends in weird places. I have friends who study bees, some who study rocks, others in biology and sociology... but what is it that we're looking at here.

I can give you a simple hint which is that we've all seen one of these before (you've undoubtedly seen a couple if you've seen any at all.) There is a very good chance that if you're reading this blog you've made use of one or two of these to do it... so what is it that we're looking at here? Come back tomorrow and find out what the WTFriday image really is!

Cheers to letting your imagination stray, but don't stray too far for this one... it's closer than you think! Leave a comment bellow of what you think you're looking at!

Above: Neighborhoods in Copenhagen give us an interesting perspective on what "Suburbs" really are.

Cheers to the world, and how little we know about it!

Apple will give it to you for a fee; Microsoft will barely do it at all... but here comes Google who will do it better, for free...and seemingly just to rub it in!

Cheers to innovation through competition!

It's amazing to see where we thought we'd be in 1925... Curiously though, no flying cars!

Cheers to the future...errr...past! No, wait, the future from the far past which is todays past but not quite as past as that past... oh nevermind. Check out the larger view here!

It took 10 years to complete, cost over $271 Million and is buried under the South-Pole. It's the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and it's a telescope longer than the World's tallest skyscrapers stacked one on another. (Total length is over 1.4kms!)

The construction of this massive project wrapped up last week making it the World's largest neutrino observatory.

The IceCube observatory is operated by the University of Wisconsin-Madison joint with the National Science Foundation, with funding provided by the United States, Belgium, Germany, and Sweden. The Barbados, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland and the UK are also contributing help in the form of researchers.

The ultimate goal is to find extremely high energy neutrinos—tiny subatomic particles—originating from supernova explosions, gamma-ray bursts and black holes (with an emphasis on expanding humankind's knowledge of Dark-Matter).

The projects principal investigator, Francis Halzen, stated optimistically:

Since the 1970s we have dreamed of building a detector of this size, and we have spent 20 years working toward IceCube [...] If the science to come brings half the excitement of completing this instrument, we have a bright future ahead. With the completion of IceCube, we are on our way to reaching a level of sensitivity that may allow us to see neutrinos from sources beyond the sun.

During the project, researchers have posted a great blog titled IceCube which you can check out here!

Cheers to the unimaginable immensity of human endeavors; We are only limited by our imagination...and our $271 million dollar budgets!

It's that time of year again when the jingles ring in the shopping centers and anyone who works in retail develops a twitch in their left eye that could be measured with the Richter Scale

So what better time to destroy a classic 1939 R. L. May tale about an abused character who is chastised and mock until of course they needed him, when he became the most popular kid on the block!

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
(it wasn't alcohol related)

had a very shiny nose.
(it was the 30's, pre-Clearasil era)
And if you ever saw him,
(He was a deer with a bioluminescent sniffer...you'd better have seen him!)
you would even say it glows.

(Well not really, it shines...it's not phosphorescent)
